Creating a better tomorrow – Our Corporate Responsibility Roadmap

This post was written by Edwina Hughes, Corporate Responsibility Director, Sodexo UK & Ireland.
Corporate responsibility at Sodexo is guided by a set of nine commitments and objectives that we call Better Tomorrow 2025 which we launched last year. It is our roadmap to help keep responsible business at the heart of how we work – how we engage and treat our employees, how we manage our relationships with our suppliers and our clients and how we influence and champion causes as the world’s 19th largest employer.
As corporate responsibility director for Sodexo UK & Ireland it is my job to ensure we are staying on track with our targets and work in collaboration with colleagues from around the business to make that happen.
In terms of what we’ve achieved this year – it has been a busy time!
Sodexo was one of the first companies to adopt new government legislation and publish our gender pay gap report highlighting a mean pay gap of 12.6%. In response to this, we have identified a number of actions to help to reduce and equalise this difference.
In March, we marked WWF’s Earth Hour with a set of plant-forward recipes for our colleagues to try out at home. In May, we took immediate action on single use plastics, banning the purchase of plastic straws and stirrers. On World Environment Day in June we shared an update on our environmental commitments We have also committed to the eradication of polystyrene containers and single use plastic bags right across the business from 2020.
Finally, we published our updated Public Service Pledge highlighting the way in which we will deliver on an ethical as well as a financial agreement with government on the contracts we run for them.
To recognise the hard work and contributions to Better Tomorrow 2025, we have updated the resources available to share and use, continuing to help inspire change throughout Sodexo. Click here for the full Better Tomorrow 2025 story.
We hope you enjoy reading about our progress with Better Tomorrow 2025, because our work doesn’t stop here – we continue to strive to improve! Our focus for the coming year will pay close attention to driving more business towards SMEs and local suppliers, continuing our battle to reduce single use plastics on our sites and creating more plant-forward menu items to offer our consumers.
