Why are you an ally to the LGBT community?
My youngest son Jack, now 22 years old has always had to deal with prejudice against his sexuality from a very young age. This manifested itself through bullying and taunting from other children and sometimes physical abuse. This still happens today.
Earlier this summer, we saw Transport for London (Tfl) replace the term ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ in its public address announcements, with titles such as ‘Everyone’ and ‘All Passengers’ which is seen as being more inclusive.
October 2017 is the 30th anniversary of Black History Month in the UK. It is a month long celebration of the achievements of people of African and Caribbean origin and an opportunity to look back at the history and contributions of the black communities in the UK. This year, also sees the 25th anniversary of World Mental Health day (10th of October) which encourages people to talk about mental health and seek support if it is needed.
