Why Sodexo? We ask our Apprentices…

Sue Davison from Sodexo Learning & Development catches up with some of our amazing Apprentices and asks “Why Sodexo?”
This week I caught up with Gary Holden, a specialist Engineer and Apprentice lead who is also completing a Level 4 apprenticeship in Facilities Management, plus the site services Apprentices at one of our pharmaceutical client sites.
Joining Gary were Mitchel, who is on his 1st year of an Electrical apprenticeship, Josh on his 1st year painting and decorating apprenticeship, Ben R and Laurence both in their 1st year of a mechanical apprenticeship, Ben and Elliot, both 2nd year Multi skilled apprenticeship, and Tom who is completing his 3rd year of an engineering apprenticeship.
I was keen to speak to them as it’s not very often I get to talk to a group of apprentices on a range of programmes, at different stages but with the same contract and apprentice support manager.
I asked them “why Sodexo?” Their stories were all different but their voices were loud and in unison when they said that they had made the right decision, were more than happy with their choice and the progress they were making and more than anything the support they got from Gary!
We spoke about diversity and inclusion and how we could potentially attract a wider spread of talent. They all agreed that getting into High Schools to talk about what it’s like being an Apprentice in a large organisation, was a great opportunity. They also agreed that the interview process for their current role was not as daunting as they thought it would be because they were supported by the existing apprentices giving them all the opportunity to talk first-hand about what it is “really” like.
We chatted about their college experiences. They all agreed that it made them a little more self-sufficient as unlike being on site with their managers, they had to find their own way around and ask for information and in the first few weeks the colleges were not as well organised as their induction to work, but we all agreed that this was part of the learning curve.
It was a pleasure to meet them all. I know Gary does a great job supporting the apprentices and that they will all be very successful in their chosen career made possible through Sodexo and fabulous apprenticeship programmes.
