Regional opportunity – National Apprenticeship Week 2019

This week is National Apprenticeship Week! Each day, we will be bringing you insights to celebrate apprentices across Sodexo UK & Ireland and encourage others to think about apprenticeships as a tool for career development.

Sodexo have an obligation to our employees to nurture talent and develop our people – these form part of our global Focus on Growth strategy. To support these aims, and as a business that covers the whole of the UK and Ireland, Sodexo offers apprenticeships in all the regional areas – England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

As an eligible employer, in England Sodexo supports the apprenticeship levy scheme. This levy is open to all employees within England and helps Sodexo fund its apprenticeships. In the other regional areas, things are slightly different – but Sodexo work’s hard to offer opportunities across the region.

Sodexo have country specific providers and programmes in Scotland, Wales and Ireland so we can continue to offer a variety of apprenticeships. We currently have over 50 employees participating in apprenticeship programmes outside of England. This number looks set to grow as Sodexo continues to expand the options available.

Kitchen porter Kyle Alexander is one of those apprentices. He joined Sodexo in 2018 and started to complete his Level 5 professional cookery apprenticeship.

“I like the way my apprenticeship is set up as it is hands on – I am learning new things every day.”

Kyle supports Sodexo’s Energy & Resources business with client Repsol Sinopec in Aberdeen.

“The team here are great and they have made me feel welcome and part of the team from the very first day.”

Apprenticeships in Scotland work slightly differently than in England and can be part funded by the Scottish government. The funding available does change depending on age and can be dependent on how many hours are worked. It sounds complicated, but Sodexo has this covered – we have experts in the business to help support employees both new and long serving. If you are interested, click here to register and one of Sodexo’s friendly and approved apprenticeship providers will be in contact.

As part of Sodexo’s 2019 National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, we are holding daily prize draws worth £50 for Sodexo employees who have taken the leap to register their interest in an apprenticeship. We will be announcing these daily on our blogs and social media, so if you have registered your interest, check back each day to see if you have won!

We’re over halfway through the week! The fourth winner of the Sodexo prize draw winner (7 March) is Supattra Suksawat – congratulations Su!

Anyone can upskill through an apprenticeship programme, so whether you are a Sodexo long server or a newbie starting out on your Sodexo journey – why not up-skill and learn something new?

If you are looking to improve your skills and develop your career, you can still register your interest – click here. #SodexoApprentices
